What is BPH or enlarged prostate?

As men age, the prostate continues to grow for many men. This can cause the bladder to have difficulty emptying because the prostate blocks the urine flow. BPH stands for benign hyperplasia of the prostate.

 Symptoms of BPH

The symptoms of BPH, or enlarged prostate, are the feelings or experiences that men have with enlarged prostate. The feelings patient express commonly include:

  • Slow urine flow

  • Urinary frequency

  • Straining to urinate

  • Intermittent flow of urine

  • Urgency (having to urinate without much warning)

  • Waking up at night to urinate

  • Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying (feeling like there is still urine left over in the bladder)

  • Urinary retention (unable to urinate)

  • Urinary tract infections
